A conversation-starter and answers to your questions from a three-times adoptive mom
As an adoptive mom (x3!) I get a lot of questions about the Big A, so I thought I would put together a little primer here. If you have more questions, drop them in the comments. Adoption is obviously close to our hearts and I can’t possibly say everything in one essay, so please consider this a conservation starter - more essays to come if there’s interest!
1. Can I talk about adoption in front of your kids?
Yes! Please do, in fact. Our kids are proud of their origins and know a lot of the details. However, remember that they are kids, not curiosities. Please save sensitive questions, such as details about birth parent choices or racial complications, for an adults-only conversation.
